Emmerdale aired one of the biggest cliffhangers of the year so far on Thursday (8 May), as someone took the ultimate revenge against scheming Joe Tate.
During Lydia Dingle’s 50th birthday party at Home Farm, Lydia’s failure to turn up was far from the biggest scandal. Joe’s secrets were exposed, dramatic rows unfolded and someone decided it’d be a good idea to push the ruthless villain out of an upstairs window!

1. Noah gets a shock – or does he?

Whenever there’s trouble in the village, quiet man Noah never seems to be far away.
Official spoilers for Friday’s episode have confirmed that Noah is first at the scene of the crime and he delivers the shocking news of Joe’s fall to the rest of the villagers.
Noah’s stunned to see his brother in such a state… or is he? He is one of the nine suspects after all, so there’s every chance he’s just pretending to be shocked like a true criminal mastermind.

Dawn has been loved-up with Joe recently, but as she received a glimpse of what he was capable of shortly before the fall, Emmerdale bosses have included her on the official suspects image.

Meanwhile, Jimmy is sure to be struck by the similarities to his family’s ‘Who Pushed Tom King?’ mystery from 2006.
Maybe Jimmy manifested this whole saga by mentioning the previous whodunit so much at Lydia’s party?
3. The police start asking questions

As you’d expect, Joe’s terrible fall sparks a police investigation. The assigned detectives waste no time before lining up their suspects and asking difficult questions, which piles pressure on everyone, whether they’re guilty or not.
Does Joe survive the fall, making this attempted murder? Or is he about to die, raising the stakes when it comes to the potential charges?
4. News spreads over Joe’s crimes

Joe’s secrets came spilling out during Lydia’s party and it’s only a matter of time before news reaches those who weren’t in attendance. So, how will grieving Jacob feel about the revelation that Joe sparked the chain of events that caused Leyla’s death?
Spoiler images for next week have already shown Jacob simmering with resentment over Joe’s actions once he knows the truth.
5. Manpreet has a guilty confession to make

Manpreet’s horrified following the revelation that she unwittingly played a role in Joe’s desperate quest for a kidney. She put two and two together amid the rows and recriminations at Home Farm during Lydia’s party, but Joe warned her to keep quiet.
Official spoilers have revealed that next week’s episodes open with Manpreet’s colleague Liam struggling to process these unsettling revelations, so we can expect Manpreet to confide in him at some point during Friday’s episode.
