British Soap Awards 2025 winners announced – here’s who won the top prizes

Soapland’s Sparkling Night: 2025 British Soap Awards Celebrate TV’s Finest 🌟🏆🎭

The glitz and glamour of the 2025 British Soap Awards returned in full force, lighting up the Hackney Empire in London on May 31st after a two-year break. Hosted by the always-charismatic Jane McDonald, the long-anticipated event brought the best of British television’s beloved soap operas together for a night of emotional speeches, dramatic clips, and well-deserved accolades.

The night’s biggest winner was EastEnders, which absolutely dominated the evening with an impressive haul of eight trophies. It was a testament to a stellar year for the BBC soap, with powerful storylines, unforgettable performances, and major anniversaries all contributing to its success.

Top Honors for EastEnders

The most coveted prize of the night — Best British Soap — went to EastEnders, cementing its place at the top of Soapland. Fans and critics alike have praised the show’s recent storylines, including its gripping 40th-anniversary episodes and its nuanced portrayals of trauma, family struggles, and redemption.

Lacey Turner, who plays Stacey Slater, was awarded Best Leading Performer for her breathtaking performance in a storyline that dealt with postpartum psychosis and the challenges of mental health. Turner’s raw and emotionally layered acting moved audiences week after week and was a clear standout.

Another key figure in the EastEnders success story was Steve McFadden, whose role as Phil Mitchell earned him Best Dramatic Performance. McFadden’s portrayal of a man unraveling under the weight of guilt and family pressure proved to be one of the soap’s most compelling arcs.

Navin Chowdhry took home Villain of the Year for his chilling portrayal of Nish Panesar. His character’s manipulative and controlling behavior kept viewers on edge and added a dark intensity to the Panesar family storyline.

Patsy Palmer (Bianca Jackson) earned Best Comedy Performance, bringing much-needed levity and chaotic charm to the streets of Albert Square.

Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter, who play longtime couple Patrick and Yolande Trueman, were honored with Best On-Screen Partnership, celebrating their chemistry, longevity, and cultural importance to the show.

The iconic episode Phil’s Psychosis: The Mitchells in 1985 won Best Single Episode, while Scene of the Year went to EastEnders at 40: Angie Watts’ Shock Return, a nostalgic and emotional nod to the soap’s rich history.

Other Big Winners of the Night

While EastEnders took the lion’s share of the awards, other soaps also had reason to celebrate.

Hollyoaks stood out with its bold storytelling and dedication to social issues. Isabelle Smith, who plays the newly introduced character Frankie Osborne, won Best Newcomer for her fresh and fearless performance. The Osborne family as a whole was awarded Best Family, recognizing their long-standing place in the show’s history and their dynamic relationships.

Hollyoaks also earned the Best Storyline award for its sensitive and courageous handling of a storyline dealing with sibling sexual abuse — a difficult but important subject portrayed with care and realism.

Emmerdale picked up two key awards. Young talent Amelia Flanagan, who plays April Windsor, took home Best Young Performer, showing incredible maturity and skill well beyond her years. Meanwhile, the Tony Warren Award — honoring outstanding behind-the-scenes contributions — was awarded to long-time camera operator Mike Plant, acknowledging his decades of service to the soap industry.

Coronation Street may have only received one award, but it was a momentous one. David Neilson, beloved for his role as Roy Cropper, was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award. Neilson’s portrayal of Roy — a gentle, thoughtful, and socially awkward café owner — has been a consistent highlight of Corrie for over 25 years. His touching acceptance speech was met with a standing ovation.

A Dramatic End to the Night

As if the night weren’t dramatic enough, the celebrations were briefly interrupted by a security incident. The afterparty, held at Hackney Town Hall, was evacuated due to a bomb scare. Fortunately, all guests and staff were safely removed from the building, and no injuries were reported. Though shaken, the soap stars handled the situation with the grace and resilience they often portray on-screen.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 British Soap Awards reminded audiences of the cultural power and emotional depth of Britain’s most enduring television genre. From long-running legends to rising stars, from tear-jerking performances to laugh-out-loud moments, this year’s winners have continued to push boundaries and bring meaningful storytelling into people’s homes.

With EastEnders enjoying a landmark year, Hollyoaks bravely tackling tough topics, and Emmerdale and Corrie delivering touching performances, the state of British soaps has never looked brighter. As viewers tune in night after night, these dramas remain not just entertainment, but reflections of real-life struggles, triumphs, and heart.

🌟 Here’s to another year of love, loss, laughter, and the unmissable drama of the soaps! 🌟
