Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock has explained Marlon Dingle’s drastic new plan in the April Windsor storyline.
April went missing over Christmas, and ever since she returned, Marlon has been exhibiting controlling behaviour, including framing her friend Dylan for theft, paying for him to go to rehab, and hiding a letter he sent.
In upcoming scenes, after she finds out about the framing and the letter, April acts out and steals some ketamine. Marlon finds her unconscious on the floor and decides to place a tracking device on her, despite Rhona Goskirk’s insistence that this could push them further apart.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other outlets, Charnock explained that he also thinks Marlon is going too far.
“At this point, you’ve got to say ‘You’ve got to stop doing stuff, just stop doing it,” he said.

“I think it’s just emblematic of how terrified he is and will continue to be that he still can’t just let her live her life, he has to know where she is because the idea of losing her again overrides the understanding,” he continued.
“I sort of get that, the utter terror of losing her again, but it’s still a clumsy thing to do and again, he realises quite quickly when he’s told off about it when Rhona gets a Bluetooth notification that he has to explain.
“Once he confesses about the tracking device, that’s when we might begin to see things change properly.”

The actor explained that it will be “very difficult” for Marlon to let April live her life, but added: “I think he’s at a point where he knows he has to, otherwise they’re never going to get anywhere.
“He keeps building walls around her and he just has to stop building walls and he has to trust her.”
