Emmerdale’s Amy Walsh and EastEnders’ Toby-Alexander Smith Launch Drama School in Leeds
In an exciting new venture, Emmerdale star Amy Walsh and her husband, former EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith, are stepping away from the soap scene to open a drama school in Leeds. The couple, who married in September 2023, are set to launch The Walsh Academy North on June 2, 2025, at St Barnabas Church in Alwoodley. Digital Spy+1The Irish Sun+1
The academy, an expansion of Amy’s sister Sally Sheppard Walsh’s London-based drama school, aims to provide speech and drama classes for children aged 7 to 16. Amy and Toby will serve as acting coaches, focusing on building confidence and self-expression rather than solely training future actors. As Toby explains, “It’s not about turning every child into an actor. We’re going to nurture that talent if it’s there and they want to dig a little deeper with it. But ultimately we want to give them the tools so they can stand tall, be heard and believe in their own voice.” The Irish Sun+1Digital Spy+1Digital Spy
The couple’s decision to embark on this project reflects their shared passion for the arts and education. Amy, known for her role as Tracy Metcalfe on Emmerdale, and Toby, who portrayed Gray Atkins on EastEnders, met in 2019 and have since become parents to a daughter, Bonnie Mae, born in 2021. Their journey together has been marked by both personal and professional milestones, culminating in this exciting new chapter. The Irish Sun+1Digital Spy+1
The Walsh Academy North promises to be a vibrant addition to the Leeds community, offering young individuals the opportunity to explore their creativity and develop valuable life skills. With Amy and Toby’s guidance, students can look forward to a supportive and inspiring environment where they can thrive.
